Thomson has been regarded as one of the better lightweights in MMA. Thomson built his record up in the smaller MMA shows before making his UFC debut in 2003, he’d go 2-1 in the UFC before they eliminated lightweight division in 2004. Thomson ended siging with Strikeforce and after racking up six straight victories, he earned himself a title shot against Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez. Thomson put on a stand-up clinic in the fight, winning a convincing decision over Melendez to become the Strikeforce Lightweight Champion. The two would rematch a year later with Melendez winning a decision over Thomson. Injuries have since held Thomson back but now he looks to get healthy and back on the path to the title.
