Easily one of the more accomplished wrestlers to enter MMA, Daniel Cormier has become one of the top heavyweight prospects in the sport. Cormier had only been training for a month at American Kickboxing Academy when he made his MMA debut in Strikeforce, where he would stop his opponent with strikes to win his debut. Cormier would then work his way up, winning the King of the Cage Heavyweight title and the Xtreme MMA Heavyweight Champion. He would come into the spotlight after securing the reserve spot in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix after winning a decision over Jeff Monson. He would be vaulted into the tournament after an injury forced Alistair Overeem out, he would take full advantage of the opportunity, knocking out Antonio Silva to advance into the tournament final against Josh Barnett.
